A split ring, is like the ring you place your keys onto, a ring that threads through the links on your bracelet and on which you then thread your charm. Once threaded, the split ring will not come away from the bracelet and neither will it allow the a charm to be lost. However, in the same way your keys can be removed from your key ring, your charms can be threaded back off the split ring, allowing you to change their position, should you choose to move them around.
We sell four sizes of Split Ring. The size of Split Ring you require is not determined by the charm you are purchasing, but the size of the bracelet links to which you are fitting the Split Rings. Because Split Rings are made of very fine wire, that forms a double thinkness to create the ring, it is unlikely you will find a charm that has an 'eye' that is too small for any of our Split Rings.
Double linked Parellel Curb, Toggle Clasp and thicker single link bracelets require 6mm Split Rings
Finer bracelets links will accept 5mm Split Rings.
This is because it is the thickness of the bracelet link that 'forces' the Split Ring apart as you fit them and 5mm Split Rings will not 'spring' back into place if they are forced onto a bracelet link that is too thick. Also, the smaller the Split Ring, the more difficult they are to fit and the less tolerance they have. The larger the Split Ring, the easier they are to fit and the greater their tolerance apart.
